Elegant Simplicity
Welcome to the Elephant Room
About the property
Located in Historic Downtown Ruston, the Elephant Room is a historic landmark in its
own right. In 1970, after having managed multiple furniture businesses in the Ruston
area, Mr. Bill Rogers purchased Ritchie Furniture located at 111 North Trenton Street,
Ruston. Mr. Bill quickly renamed the downtown furniture store Rogers Furniture and
Gifts and owned and operated the store until his death in 2014.
The original Check-In Room at 215 West Mississippi Avenue was used by Rogers and
his team to “check in” inventory and store furniture before moving it into the showroom
for display.
Why the Elephant Room you ask? Mr. Rogers collected elephants of all shapes and
sizes. Over the years, people would bring elephants to him to add to his collection, and
at the time of his death, he was the proud owner of over 3,000 elephants.
Mr. Bill was a fixture in the Ruston community. He was well known for his outgoing
personality, generosity, and ability to connect with others. He was always up for a good
prank and found great joy in spending time with family and friends. It is our hope, that
like Mr. Bill, you will find great joy and fellowship in what is now affectionately known as
the Elephant Room.
